David Wayne Strachan

October 4th, 1955 ~ November 29th, 2019

With a sad heart, we announce the passing of David Wayne Strachan. On November 29, 2019 David left this world with his family at his side after a brave battle with a rare autoimmune disease called Dermatomyositis.

Born on October 4, 1955 David was a committed and loyal husband and father. He lived life as a passionate man. He was generous, hardworking and resourceful; always keen to build the dreamed up creations of his wife and daughter and had a playful attitude toward life. David’s laugh, kind eyes, and notorious mustache will be remembered by those who loved him. David held a unique sense of style that included wearing socks with sandals and his many hats.

David worked as a welder for the majority of his life, a profession he perfected over the 30 plus years of his career. In his spare time he used these skills to repurpose various antiques, scrap metal, and other treasures he found into useful and creative objects. He was also a member of Scouts Canada as a scout leader for the 84th Scout Troop. Many will remember him fondly as “Scouter Dave”. In his later years, he enjoyed making time to spend with his wife taking leisurely strolls, working in the garden together, and traveling together.

David was predeceased by his father Frank Strachan and father-in-law Ross Boutin. He leaves behind his wife, Myriam, and four children Christopher (Monique), Steven, Melissa and Tiffany. He leaves behind his mother Mabel, sister Beryl, and two brothers Melvin (Teresa) and Vernon (Teresa). David was a proud grandfather to 8 grandchildren Norah, Hayden, Ryder, Cohen, Vedder, Kyrie, Arlo and Elise; and 2 fur-grandchildren Nixon and Phoenix. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Bertha Boutin and many nieces and nephews.

As David wished, there will be a Celebration of his Life held on his birthday, October 4, 2020. Details will be posted at a later date. The family would like to thank the dedicated ICU staff at Regina Pasqua Hospital for the care they provided during his short stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospitals of Regina Foundation, https://www.hrf.sk.ca/

Messages:

My condolences to the Strachan family.

We are very sad to here about the passing of Dave . We remember him well from Advance days. He was an amazing person. Even though he is gone, he will not be forgotten. Our deepest condolences to Myriam and family, friends and relatives on their loss.

Mariam, I’m both shocked and saddened to learn of Dave’s passing. He was someone you recognized instantly from the front or back, as I witnessed your many walks. His presence will be missed in our neighborhood. My thoughts are with you and your family as you grieve your loss.

Melissa, Myriam and family. I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He had the biggest, kindest smile which matched his heart. I enjoyed the years getting to know him through Miorita, and I know he will be greatly missed. My condolences.

When Dave and Myriam visited Melissa in our village of Little harbour in Nova Scotia, we liked him immediately. As in his obituary, his playfulness, kindness and creative hard-working side was as obvious is that cool moustache he sported. It’s such a tragedy that he was lost to Melissa and the rest of his family so suddenly and too soon. We’re thinking of you. Darcy Rhyno and Alison Stanton

My condolences to Myriam and family.

Melissa and family, Our hearts are heavy with sadness to learn that your dad was so suddenly taken from you. I am so glad that you were able to be with him, to surround him with love, and now to be able to spend time with your family to support each other. These are the most treasured gifts you can ever give. When we lose someone we love, there will always be a hole in our lives. All we can do is eventually make peace with our new life.

Myriam and family... I'm so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I enjoyed our many conversations while volunteering at bingos, as well as at Miorita events. Sending you love, hugs and prayers.

Our condolences to the Strachan family in the loss of your father and grandfather. May God give you His peace and comfort during Christmas and the coming years.

David and I lived in the same community. When David left to start his welding career we saw less of each other. My sympathy to all of Davids family, his brothers, sister and mother Mabel.

I am deeply saddened to read of David’s passing. My heart goes out to Myriam, Melissa, Tiffany, Stephen and Christopher. He was an amazing man and always had a smile.

We had the pleasure to meet Dave and Miriam when they came for an east coast visit in 2018. Their lovely daughter Melissa , is a special friend to us. Dave enjoyed a fish fry supper and lots of banter of conversation filled with laughs. We are saddened by this unexpected illness that took David’s life. Much blessings to Myriam and family , our thoughts of love go out to you all.

Grew up with Dave going to school , same town and were even neighbours for awhile until we went out seperate ways. Met each other on the street from time to time and always enjoyed his friendship. Condolences to his whole family from ours
