Gary Dale Simonson

June 8th, 1978 ~ August 15th, 2019

On August 15, 2019 Gary Dale Simonson lost his battle with esophageal cancer at Wascana Grace Hospice in Regina, SK with family by his side.

Gary was born on June 8, 1978 in Regina, SK. He grew up in East Regina playing sports such as basketball and hockey. Gary was also involved in Boy Scouts in his earlier years. Gary was a very handsome, loving, and caring young man. In his elementary school years, he had many friends and was very popular with the ladies.

Gary was fortunate to experience lots of exciting moments in his life such as travelling and attending a NHL game, NBA game, and a trip to Disneyland twice. Gary was also a Boston Bruins fan and really enjoyed the Boston Bruins playoff games this spring.

Gary was well known for his generosity and compassion towards family, friends, and animals and of course his love for music. Just recently, Gary commented that he hoped there was music in heaven. Gary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as playing pool and video games and listening to music really loud. Gary had a heart of gold and was always willing to put the needs of others before himself.

Gary experienced a life-changing event in his later teenage years when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. This was a life-altering event for him and his family, however, it never changed the generous, thoughtful man he always was.

Gary was predeceased by his grandparents Don and Joan Richardson and Helmer and Marion Simonson; great-grandmothers Thelma Smale (Momo) and Elva Trachsel. Left to cherish his memory are his mother and stepfather Cathie and Mark Kuzma; father and stepmother Dale and Lori Simonson; sister Nasha (Jordan) Sutherland, brother Gregory (Heather) Simonson, and sister Kayla (Kevin) Kurcin; nieces Mya and Sage Sutherland, Madison Simonson, Sophia Kurcin; nephew Bentley Kurcin; Aunt Donna and Marcel Herback, Uncles Brian and Terry Simonson; cousins Janelle Schwartz, Daniel Schick, and Laverne Backlun; special friends Debbie Allen and Howie Howatt who were a tremendous help for providing care for Gary during his stay at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice. The family extends a special thank you to all his friends for their support and care. Gary was taken too soon and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

We want to thank the nurses and staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their care and patience. The family also extends a special thank you to a phenomenal and caring doctor, Dr. A. Kilmury. We can’t express enough thanks to the care he received.

Back in April of 2019, at the request of Gary, we had his Celebration of Life that was hosted at the Serbian Club where he wanted to attend to say his goodbyes.

There will be a private family service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice/ William Booth Special Care Home, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6.
