February 20, 1966 - May 17, 2020

Shawna Lynn Schwab was born February 20, 1966 in Edmonton, Alberta to Elizabeth (Betty) Ann McLeod. Shawna resided in Alliance, Alberta with her grandparents Robert and Audrey McLeod until she moved to Edmonton in 1970 with her mother Betty. Later that year, Betty was married to Shawna’s step father, Gerald Verschoor. The next year, in 1971, Betty and Gerald welcomed Shawna’s brother Clint. In November of 1979, Shawna, her mother and brother were involved in a car accident leaving Shawna as the only survivor; her grandmother and aunties welcomed her into their homes with loving arms. Near the end of 1979, Shawna met her father Cam Carlson; since then, they have always had a very strong and loving relationship. In 1992, Shawna met her future husband Doug Schwab. Shawna and Doug were united in marriage on July 22, 1995 then welcomed their son Cody Douglas Schwab on September 21, 1996 and their daughter, Caitlyn Blanche Schwab on December 9, 1998. Shawna and her family lived in Red Deer,Alberta. Shawna and Doug operated a successful concrete company that they founded together in 1996. In July of 2008 they moved to an acreage where they resided until the time of her departure. Shawna was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2018 and the battle continued for 2 ½ years. On May 17, 2020 Shawna succumbed to her illness; Shawna never gave up, always saying, “It's another hurdle, I can do this”. Her final days were spent at home, in the care of her loving family. Shawna’s love for life, people and animals was incredible. She always had a smile and loved to hug everyone. Shawna never judged anybody and made everyone feel like family. She will be missed greatly by everyone that knew her. Shawna is survived by her loving husband, Doug Schwab; her son, Cody and his wife Whitney; and her daughter, Caitlyn (Matt). She will also be forever remembered by her aunt's/sisters, Lori (Tim) Brooks, Janie Harvey; her numerous sisters and brothers inlaws; and her father Cam (Pat) Carlson. Shawna was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth Ann McLeod; brother, Clint Verschoor; uncle, Dale McLeod,  grandmother and grandfather, Audrey and Robert McLeod, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Blanche and Ignatius Schwab and sister-in-law, Karen Veleti.
