Darwin Kenneth Kirton

September 4th, 2020

It is deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Darwin ‘Hook’ Kirton passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 in Olds, Alberta at the Season Hospice Center. After a long battle with cancer that he approached with an overwhelming amount of strength and of course a great sense of humour and positivity.

He was born in Olds, Alberta to Fred and Bertha Kirton and spent most of his life in central Alberta. He was first married to Linda and they had 3 wonderful children, Darwin, Darcy and Angie. Later, when he married Meoldie he became father to Natasha and they then had Daryl.

He was predominantly a truck driver for most of his career but also had his picker operator license.  And as his family recently found out he also dabbled in teaching after high school.

For those of us that knew Darwin running into him never turned out to be a quick visit as he always had new stories to tell; whether it was regaling  you with a new fishing or hunting tale or simply listening to what life had brought you since you had last met. When you did finally say goodbye, you were always a little more upbeat as his personality was contagious.

We will forever remember the games of Trivial Pursuit and the unending amount of knowledge that he carried with him, the drives out west and of course the many hunting and fishing trips.

Darwin was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Bertha Kirton, father-in-law Jim Foster; wife, Melodie Kirton; daughter, Angela Moore and son, Daryl Kirton. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Darwin (Roxanne) Kirton, Darcy (Krista) Kirton; daughter, Natasha (Todd) Leeming; and mother-in-law, Ila Foster. He will forever be remembered with high regards by his grandchildren, Reighan Kirton, Jared Kirton  Mckenzie Kirton,  Morgan Kirton, Cole Moore, Travis Moore, Khari Leeming, Adelaide Leeming and Darnelle Leeming. He never be forgotten by many other countless relatives and friends.

There will be a service at the Legion in Olds for family and close friends on October 8th, 2020 at 11am. Any donations are asked to be made in his memory to the Olds and District Hospice Society.
