Patricia Ann Heykants

April 7th, 2020

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Patricia Heykants on Tuesday, April 7 2020. After a courageous battle with cancer, she crossed peacefully with her love by her side. Patti was born in Winnipeg in 1957 and spent her younger years with her siblings, Gerry, Lynn, and Andy along with countless friends along the way. Her mother passed away in Patti’s teenage years after which she moved to Edmonton with friends and started some career training. While living there she met Bill and started their lives together. After moving to Red Deer, they got married and had two beautiful children, Spencer and Breanna. Once the kids were both in school, Patti volunteered her time in the school system. Whether in the library or front desk, she always had a smile and enjoyed her work. After joining RDPSD, she continued to work at various schools, eventually retiring from Oriole Park Elementary school and enjoying all things that life offered. Her favorite being family time. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill; children, Spencer and Breanna; sisters, Gerry and Lynn; brother Andy, and BFF Ruth. A Celebration of Life to be determined.

Messages:

I’m so sorry to see that Patti has passed. She was a friend of mine in our early teenage years until our 30s, where we slowly drifted apart. We attended each other’s weddings and kept in touch across the miles for many years. We would always have a good laugh, she had a good sense of humour. I was just thinking of her and wondering about her, what a shock. May you Rest In Peace Patti. Sharon

Bill, Spencer, and Breanna, I hope it helps you to know others are thinking of you in your loss. Patti was a respected and loved secretary at Oriole Park school. She always greeted everyone with a big smile and I am grateful to have worked with her. We had many good times together, in and out of school. May wonderful memories help you at this difficult time. With our sympathy and love, Laura and Henri Golczyk

Bill, Spencer & Breanna, I am so sorry to hear of Patti's passing. I worked with her at Oriole Park School and her friendliness always made trips to the office enjoyable. The Kindergarten Kids were always happy to talk to her and Patti was always thrilled to listen to them recite poems and sing songs in the office. Patti did an excellent job taking care of the library and she was always so helpful when new K parents came into the office to register or when they needed assistance. I send my sympathies and hope you find comfort in your special memories of Patti.

Dear Bill, Spencer, and Breanna, It is with broken hearts, and our deepest sympathy, that we send hugs to all of you. Patti was such a kind, caring, thoughtful, compassionate and amazing person. She touched the lives of so many people. I will cherish the memories and time spent with her. May all of your wonderful memories help to bring you comfort.

My deepest sympathies to Bill, Spencer and Breanna. Patti was so helpful to me at Normandeau the year I was teacher-librarian. She was kind, hardworking and so personable. My thoughts are with all of you. Lori Peterson

Dear Bill,Spencer and Breanna, My heart is broken and will be aching for a very long time over the loss of our dear, sweet Patti. I say “our” because your dear wife and mother was a bright spot in so many people’s lives. The first time I met her was on a home visit to welcome you, Spencer, and later you, Breanna, into my classroom. Patti thanked me for coming, offered me tea and made me feel so welcome in your home. I went away with a big smile, knowing this lovely lady was a wonderful mother and would always be welcome as a helper in my classroom. I wasn’t wrong, but what I didn’t know then was that she would become a dear friend and work colleague. I know that you all have a very difficult road in front of you; it is so hard to lose someone you love so very much. You have many friends you can count on to help you along the way , I hope you consider me one of them. (Please call if I can help in any way.) You also have so many wonderful memories to cherish and although it is painful to think of them now, I promise that one day they will bring you comfort and even joy because you were so blessed to have had Patti in your lives. Anyone who knew her was blessed. I wish you all love, peace and healing.

Bill, Spencer and Breanna my heart breaks for you. The world has lost a very special, kind and fun loving lady. I worked with Patti at OP, I appreciated her concern for the little muffins in the school, her love of books, her great sense of humour, and her love of a little mischief! This is such a difficult time, please know that we would all like to be there to offer a hug, offer support, food, whatever we could to help. I will treasure my happy memories of Patti, I can see her smile and hear that little giggle. My sincere condolences.

Sincere condolences, from Nancy and Chris.
