Sonja Fitzsimons

April 17th, 2020

Sonja Fitzsimons, age 62, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 17, 2020 in Red Deer, after an extended illness.

Sonja was born in Red Deer, married the love of her life and raised two children in the city she called home.  She loved travel, camping and having a great time with her family and friends.

Sonja was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost.  She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them.  She especially loved her role as Grandma and had the best time when she was with her grandkids, going for walks, watching movies, fishing and even the occasional surprise water fight.

Sonja was also a great friend who would do anything she could to help you out when you needed it.  If you called her, she was there.  Her passing leaves a giant hole in many hearts.

Sonja is lovingly remembered by her husband Edward, son Neil (Kerry), daughter Jody, and grandkids Devon and Robyn.

Sonja is lovingly remembered by her mom, Lies; siblings, Annalise (Brent), Roy (Jennie), Mary Ann (George); and is predeceased by her dad, Ted Harkema.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

If you have any heartwarming or funny stories you would like to share, please do.  We know she meant so much to so many.

Sonja will never be forgotten.

Love you to the moon and back.

Sonja had a heart of gold!! She helped me organize my Out west wedding, and had connections to line up some of the more detailed aspects to make everything function! All out of the kindness of her heart! She always went above and beyond to find out how many kids were going to be out camping, and bringing treat bags for them all! She even brought out huge pumpkins one Thanksgiving camping trip for each of the kids to carve!! Beyond measure she was one of the most selfless, amazing moms I was blessed to have in my life!! Xoxox Rest In Peace Sony!!

Ed & Family, So sorry to hear about Sonya. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
