With sad hearts we announce the passing of Ronald Opp on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital after a brief fight with lung cancer at the age of 76 years.   He was born to parents Elmer & Nettie Opp, on January 7, 1943 in Eckville, AB. Ron was with the Red Deer Fire Dept for 31 years retiring as Platoon Chief. Ron is lovingly remembered by his wife, Amanda; children, Sharon (Kent), Steve (Jen), Shanon (Jim) & Shane; six grandchildren, Justin, Kylie, Jordan, Cale, Kaetlyn, Carson; sister, Barb; cousin, Sandy and many pups. Ron was known for his love of baseball, hockey and football and was an avid fan of the Edmonton Oilers & Eskimos. Ron’s hockey career led him to having a tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed coaching his kids hockey and baseball teams.
A gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, from 11-2pm at the Red Deer Elks Club. Donations can be made to Red Deer Firefighters Children’s Charity.
