Mario Romano Skara

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Romano Skara at the age of 86 after a long illness. He passed away peacefully on March 30, 2021 in Richmond, BC. 

Mario was born in 1934 in the village of Luka, Dugi Otok, Croatia. Mario and his wife Nada met and started their family in Luka where they had their daughter, Borana. In 1956 they fled to Bari, Italy where they had their first son, Jadran. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada and lived in Toronto, Ontario where they had their second son, Frank. They have resided in Vancouver and Richmond, BC since 1963. 

Mario is predeceased by his loving wife Nada in 2016. Mario is survived by his children, Borana (Chris), Jadran (Nellie), Frank (Linda), his sisters Anastazija and Svetka (Josip). 

He was a loving Dido to all of his 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mario will be remembered for his great love of fishing, his love and devotion to his family, and his passion for hospitality and generosity that he showed to all throughout his life. Mario will live on forever in our hearts. 

A private funeral mass for Mario will be held on Friday April 9 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Parish, 3105 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver, BC followed by entombment at OceanView Cemetery in Burnaby, BC. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
