Ernie Lorne Hussack

April 25th, 2020

With a heavy heart we write to announce that Ernie Lorne Hussack passed away suddenly due to a heart condition on April 25th at his Chilliwack home.

Born in Sherridon, Manitoba, he was the only child of widower John Hussack, and Marie Steciuk. As a young boy, the support of his two older brothers helped Ernie not only endured the death of their father, but also the cold winters of Northern Manitoba.

Yet it was Faye, his future wife, who brought new warmth to his life. After he joined the Canadian Forces, the young couple left their home in Winnipeg, eventually marrying in a military ceremony. For nearly a decade his service took them across the country, though as his comrades struggled to pronounce his name, he grew accustomed to being known as Lorne.

After numerous injuries, a battle with thyroid cancer, and finding his paradise in Chilliwack, he left the military. In the years that followed, despite his pain, Ernie wore many hats, as he helped build several of the family homes, and trained at GR Tech. Yet he was most proud of being Dad to his only child, a role he thought he would never have due to a motorcycle accident.

His sense of duty led him to continue to sacrifice for the community. Over the years, he volunteered with various organizations, including the Chilliwack Citizens on Patrol, and in his later years VETS Canada. Still, he managed to find time for his passions, namely his love of classic cars, various collectibles, the company of his comrades at the Anavets 305, and his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother Eugene, and wife Faye, who he vigilantly tended to in her last days, and never recovered from losing. He is survived by brother Mervin (Yvette), and his son Devon (Rebecca Hartley).  As a service at this time isn’t possible, in lieu of flowers, we ask you to contribute to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Legion, The Last Post Fund, or VETS Canada.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
