Ivy Hadley

December 11th, 2020

Ivy was known for her infectious smile and her adventurous outlook on life.

Born on the family farm near Glaslyn, SK in 1925, she was the youngest of seven siblings.  She graduated from Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing, Prince Albert in 1947.  It remained one of the cornerstones of her life.  Ivy was very proud of her 70-year nursing career and passed that passion for medicine along to several of her grandchildren.

In 1948 Ivy and Vince were married.  They started a family, and after 5 daughters they decided that was enough!  Their family was perfect!  Ivy, along with Vince, enriched the community of PA by volunteering and supporting many organizations, for instance, Ivy was part of the first ‘Status of Women’ committee in Prince Albert.

In 1974 Ivy, Vince, Amy and Ivy D started a new chapter and moved to Burnaby B.C. where Ivy took a staff nursing position at Sears.  Ivy embarked on many adventures; from buying a cabin at Mt. Baker all on her own one weekend, to being part of the Lady Vancouver Club. She volunteered at Expo ’86 and started a weekly supper club and a BC Discovery group.  Ivy and Vince later moved to White Rock in 2001 where they embraced the local community, established great friendships and enjoyed walking along the beach and pier.

She treasured the friendships she made throughout her life.  She was the glue that kept her large extended family and many dear friends connected and together through countless enjoyable dinners and get togethers!

Always curious, Ivy traveled the world and was fortunate enough to see six continents. She also loved following her family in her atlas on their adventures around the globe.

She encouraged each of her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren to do their best, to work hard, to stay active, to look out for each other and to follow their dreams.  In short, she always inspired her family and friends to live life to its fullest and that is exactly what she did.

Ivy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on November 22nd and passed away December 11th, peacefully, at home in White Rock surrounded by the love of her family. She was a very patient patient to the end, teaching us all to be better caregivers.

Ivy will be lovingly remembered by her five daughters Lina (Brian), Patricia (George), Connie (Alan), Amy (Jamie) and Ivy (Edwin); eleven grandchildren Josh, Jana, Siobhan, Nicolette, Alana (Duncan), Jessica, Alan Vincent, Chrissy (Curtis), Ian, Johnathan and Mariah; 2 great grandchildren Remi and Emilie as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and good friends.  She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Vince, and her grandson Alan Vincent.

When Covid concerns abate, we plan to hold a celebration of Ivy’s life at Waskesiu, PANP (summer of 2021) where she spent many summers.

Messages:

To the Hadley family my deepest condolences on the passing of your mom. I realize I’m posting this a couple of years late and I apologize. I just came across this memorial site today. My mom and dad (Wally & Eleanor/Duffy) we’re good friends with Vince and Ivy. We lived about a half block from them on 9th St in PA. And as us kids came along - I’m close to Patty (Patsy?) in age and my brother Pat was Connie’s age. We moved to Saskatoon when I was 5 but we were back often to visit relatives and usually a visit with the Hadleys. What a great family headed by some terrific parents. All my best to one and all, take care.

Sincerest condolences Lina, Pat, Connie, Amy, Ivy, and all the family. At this sad time we can all take comfort in the joy that Ivy brought to the entire community of Waskesiu for more decades than any of us have been alive. Mark Brayford

Fondest memories of a lovely lady, so full of life. I first met Ivy when she came with her sister Mary to visit my parents Carson & Nell McCague in Newry. Their enthusiasm for travel & adventure was infectious & Ivy & her family were all so welcoming to me when I returned the compliment & visited them in Prince Albert. I will greatly miss the letters with news of all the family that Ivy wrote, continuing the tradition that Mary had kept up until a short time before she passed away. My thoughts are with you Lina, Pat, Connie, Amy & Ivy.

To Ivy's family, We are so sorry to hear of Ivy's passing. We fondly remember our wonderful visits with Ivy, our dear Waskesiu neighbor. Ivy was a kind and thoughtful person and we admired her positive energy, an inspiration to us. We will miss her. We are sorry for your loss. With our sincere Sympathy, Jamie and Janet

With deepest sympathies, I send condolences to Ivy's family~Lina, Patricia, Connie, Amy & Ivy and their families in the recent loss of their sweet mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I will always remember her exuberance, and her energetic strides along the Pacific Ocean enjoying the rays of the sun in Guayabitos. She welcomed me in and shared her joyful heart. Her abundant smiles drew me in. She loved to sit and chat awhile on a beach rendez-vous. As I reminisce, the photos tell a story. They become real and vibrant and embrace a beautiful soul, a beautiful life. I am reminded of sweet moments with a beautiful woman. I am very grateful to have met Ivy and shared a gentle part of her life. She had a kindred spirit and shared it with those fortunate to have known her. Remembering Ivy in thought and prayer, Lorraine

We loved your mom. She always made us smile and we always parted with a jig in our step. Her and Vinny created both a wonderful family and a Waskesiu legacy. You know we'll miss her smile, wave and fast walk in summers to come, but she's with Vince and Alan and will take good care of them, til you show up. Condolences and love to all the crew. We hope we will be up at the lake when you have her service.

Dear Lina, I am so sorry to hear about your loss of your Mom. She was a delightful lady and it seems she had a wonderful life filled with Family and friends. Sending you my condolences, Susan

To the Hadley Family, I am sorry for your loss. My memories of Mrs Hadley: Waskesiu Lake – she introduced me to tall gin and tonic with extra lime Dinner at the WhiteRock apartment – turnip casserole. I have never eaten turnip casserole, she tried to convince me that I would like it. Sadly, I never acquired a taste for it. Her walking sticks. Her funny hats. I admired her love of life. She traveled everywhere – Vancouver, Saskatchewan, Mexico Mostly, her bright, endless smile. She was always always cheerful. There are often people who come into our lives that upon quiet reflection we can’t imagine being without. To Mrs Hadley, you will not believe how glad I am that I met you. Rest in Peace.

To all you daughters and family; Our condolences on hearing/reading of Ivy's passing. We will miss her infectious positive personality around Waskesiu - especially on Mallard St. You couldn't ask for a better neighbor than Ivy and your family. Hi from Mom ! Brian and Barb

So sorry to hear of Ivy's passing. She was one great lady. My mom (Marj Matheson) and I always enjoyed our visits with her at the camp kitchen at Waskesiu. Even though my mom was not there this summer, she always asked if I had seen Ivy. It always amazed us how well she traveled around Waskesiu. We will miss her. Sorry for your loss.

Connie and Al, I am so sorry to hear about your mom Connie. She was an amazing lady. Thinking of you, Hugs, Karen

Dear Alan and Connie, Our thoughts are with you. My mom also passed away in November at the age of 97, and she too packed a lot of activity into her life span. Take care.

Dear Alan and Connie, Our thoughts are with you. My mom also passed away in November at the age of 97, and she too packed a lot of activity into her life span. Take care.

Ivy was a wonderful ‘pistol’ of a woman. Caring, loving, intelligent and a dear neighbour of long ago. Our heartfelt condolences to her entire family.

The last time we saw Ivy she had stopped to visit my mother, Alice Greening, at her home at Anglin Lake while we were with mom for the weekend. We opened the door to Ivy Hadley and in walked laughter, joy and love. We are sorry for your loss, but have no doubt there are countless wonderful memories. In our thoughts, Barb and Doug

Wishing you all many moments of love and reminiscence as you lay your mother to rest. Our sympathies to you Amy and Connie and all of your family, In friendship, Cal and Mari

....no person is ever truly alone. Those who live no more, whom we loved, echo still within our thoughts, our words, our hearts... With our deepest sympathy. Lori, Eric, Jordan, Kiara and Loïc Bolay

My first memory of Ivy is the day Ivy Dawn came home from the hospital in Prince Albert after she was born. I was over playing at their house, and was SO jealous of Amy, because I too, wanted a baby sister. Most of my memories of Ivy took place over the years at Waskesiu where we would cheerily greet each other as she whizzed by around the townsite or on the trails, legs briskly walking and poles a-pumping... I was fortunate to enjoy the occasional gin and tonic with her as well. Ivy's ever-present smile and sense of humour will be greatly missed. What an inspirational woman! Deepest condolences to the Hadley family on the loss of this incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, role model for all. Cheers to a life well lived!

I was so very sorry to hear that Ivy had passed on. Although I didn’t know her that well, I saw that she was an inspiration and role model for young and old alike. My thoughts are with you

Our entire family went to bed last night with very heavy hearts. We had heard through a friend from the lake, that Ivy had passed. It literally came as a complete shock to us all. We’d been neighbours to Ivy in Wakesiu for the past three years. Prior to renting the property next door, we had seen her in the community for years. Always admiring her strength, stamina and tenacity. She was so pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed spending our holiday time close to her. She was so wonderful to our children. Our middle boy cried himself to sleep over the loss of grandma Ivy. She made a wonderful impression on him as well as us all. She will truly be missed. I will ensure that my children tell their children about grandma Ivy by continuing to remind them of her graciousness and kindness each summer we spend in the park. Our thought are with her family and hope they know what an impact she had on the many she knew. We’re very sorry for your loss.

Dear Connie and Alan. I was so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was a most gracious and lovely lady. I always so enjoyed visiting with her the few times we met. My deepest condolences.

I worked with Vince Hadley and remember Ivy and the girls at our Christmas and Greenleaf business events. They were a personal team and Ivy was engaging and warm with everyone. My wife Judy and I always enjoyed been with Vince and Ivy. Al

Ivy was my Dad's youngest sister and she looked after me when I was just a grasshopper, when my own mother couldn't. She had a whack of girls which became my closest cousins, especially after she and Vin moved to BC. Vin had a tattoo and was the first I'd ever seen and likely a reason I became a tattooist. Fortunately she, and many of her kin also wintered over in Nayarit, so I was able to spend Christmas in Mexico with them.

What a lovely obituary for such an outstanding person! I have known Ivy since I was a young girl when Vince worked for Investors. She was always such a warm, charismatic lady - so full of the joy of living. She had a light that glowed brightly and lit up the lives of those around her. I will certainly miss our visits at the lake. My condolences.

To all of the family - my condolences at this trying time. Having lost my 90 year old mother mid October 2020, I continue to walk my own path of grief and the pain of the finality, may you walk lightly. Ivy will be remembered for her passion to remain active and her strong belief in the bonds she had in family and friends. As I look down Waskesiu Drive in the future - I will continue to see Ivy, her many hats and her walking poles. She remains a shinning example of what we each could be. Dan Boehm

Thoughts and prayers for all of you on the passing of you Mom, Grandma. She was one of the most positive women I know. She was always smiling and happy to see everyone. Carla Hadley

It’s hard to accept that this vibrant little woman will not be at Waskesiu in the summer. This picture portrays her love of life and her spirit so aptly. She had more energy than most of us. I will miss her at Friday morning camp kitchen coffee and our little visits at Evrgreen. She was an inspiration to me and to everyone she met. I am proud to call Ivy my friend. I am disappointed that it never worked out that I couldn’t get a picture with Ivy, myself and my granddaughter as we all share the name Ivy. My condolences to all her families. Ivy will be missed by everyone who knew her. ♥️

To the entire Hadley family, Jim and I send our condolences on the passing of your mother. Many thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. May the blessings of our dear Lord comfort you and guide you at this difficult time.

To of all Amy’s family , Amy’s legacy will live in each of you , Vince and Amy’s greatest accomplishment !! Done to perfection !! We will smile when we speak of Vince and Amy , for all the smiles they gave to us !! They will remain in our memories and our hearts
