Margaret Mary Bailey

December 11th, 2015

Margaret Mary Bailey passed away peacefully on a Friday evening at Louis Brier Home and Hospital while being attended to by familiar staff. Earlier that day Margaret was visited by her loving daughter-in-law, Babe. Margaret was 88 years old.

Margaret was born in 1927 in Port Coquitlam to Mr. John and Mrs. Mary Wingrove. Eldest of 3 siblings (predeceased brothers Ray and Doug Wingrove), Margaret was a vivacious character who possessed a quick wit and a sense of humor larger than life. She was known affectionately as ‘Peggy’ to close friends and family and was called Mama by her predeceased husband Alvan Alexander Bailey.

From 1972-1985 Margaret lived in Victoria with her husband Al where the Bailey family owed 3 meat markets, 2 fish markets and 2 apartment buildings. The family returned to Margaret’s birthplace Port Coquitlam in 1985. Margaret not only played a central role in shaping the character of her beloved son, Mike, she also played a significant role in her granddaughter Carolyn and daughter-in-law Babe's lives. Long lazy summers at the pool and Sunday afternoon baking and gardening with grandma will be missed. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Babe Bailey, as well as granddaughter Carolyn (Roger Ling) and many cousins, Margaret's unforgettable laughter, generous spirit and timeless flair for fashion will be dearly missed.

Margaret’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Louis Brier Home and Hospital for taking such wonderful care of Margaret for the past few years.
