Luigi Giorgio Bedin

August 7th, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Giorgio Bedin on August 7, 2022 at Columbia View Lodge in Trail, BC.

Luigi was predeceased by his loving wife Licia. He is survived by his son Mark (Rachel), daughter Christine (Ken) Kryski, grandchildren Christopher and Felicia, his two sisters and two brothers in Italy as well as many nieces and nephews.

Luigi was born in Levada de Pederobba, Provinciale de Treviso, Italy on September 25, 1937. Luigi was one of five children and was raised on a farm an hour from Venice. He made the solo journey by ship to Canada in 1957 at the age of nineteen in the hopes of making a better life for himself.

Shortly after his arrival, he met and married Licia and they settled in Glenmerry. Luigi was a man of many skills. He began working for the City of Trail as a stone mason building many of the rock walls that exist in Trail today. Luigi was the last surviving original rock wall stone mason. After working as a stone mason, Luigi want on to become a millwright and worked at Cominco for 31 years.

Luigi was a master gardener and wine maker, winning a number of local awards. He loved to share the “fruits” of his labour with family, neighbours and friends.

Luigi also enjoyed bocce, singing in the Italian choir, hunting, fishing and volunteering his time at the Colombo Lodge (which was his second home for many years).

Luigi had many interests and talents, however; his main focus was his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to all the staff at Rosewood Village and Columbia View Lodge for the care and attention they gave Luigi during this last year.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Luigi’s memory may be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation (Columbia View Lodge Garden of Gratitude Project) at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Francis dela Cruz, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.

Messages:

So sorry to hear of Luigi’s passing. I only knew him and Licia for a few years but they were stellar people in every way. Lui was the first one to knock on my door when I moved in, with a bag of apricots. He said “my name is Lui” and I said “so is mine”! It was always fun to chat with him. He was always in his beautiful garden and yard. RIP Lui

My sympathies to the Luigi's family. I remember him singing in the Italian choir with his many friends' ; a couple of them who he was closer to, like my uncle, spending time together bocce, picnics, dances, etc. You will always have loving memories of him and Licia. Thinking of you.

Dear Christine and Mark, I was so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. I will always remember going for a walk in Glenmerry during our summer visits to Trail and passing your parents’ beautiful corner property. Many times there was Luigi busy watering and trimming. Our next family reunion will be missing him. God bless your family, Anne

So sorry to hear. Rachel and Mark and family. Our deepest condolonces. Roger. And Donna

Caro fratello mio, tu sei sempre stato e sempre sarai per me, una persona speciale e le tue premure non potrò mai dimenticare. Le mie condoglianze a figli e nipoti. Con amore zia Zoella

Christine, Ken, Chris and Felicia! My thoughts are with you and your family. Luigi was such a kind man and welcoming. Him and my Nonno had wonderful times together. Thinking of you all!

Worked with Louie at Cominco during my apprenticeship. Nicest guy and friendly person you could ever meet. Rest In Peace

I got to know Luigi while singing in the Trail Italian Choir together for many years. He was always a joyful and smiling man who was eager to share his homemade Italian wine. I loved his apricot wine! My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
