Dennis George Melvin

April 14th, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Melvin, beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He sustained a critical injury at home and passed away Thursday April 14th at the Vernon Hospital with his family and loved ones by his side.

Dennis leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Barbie Melvin, mother Fern Melvin, his 3 children Shawn (Elma), Kent (Linette) and Bryce (Charissa); his 5 grandchildren Jordan (Carly), Jessica (Jordan Jensen), Katrina (Jesse Pearman), Juanna (Tanner King), and Victoria as well as one great granddaughter June. Dennis was predeceased by his daughter Karla and father Clifford.

He was born in New Westminster Hospital to Clifford & Fern Melvin on January 13th, 1948. He was the first of four children, Brent (Rita), Dale (Sandy), and Arden (John Howard) followed.

Dennis was in business for over 50 years in the Okanagan area with various family members.

Dennis was a well-loved man that had many passions in life. His love for God was undeniable. He loved his wife and family dearly. He loved to fish, enjoyed cooking for family and friends, had a great love for his garden and yard. He considered his work to be his hobby and everyone that he worked with at Beachcomber was treated as family. He and Barbie loved to travel and spent much time in Maui.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Hassen Memorial Arena (3315 Pleasant Valley Road, Armstrong, BC V0E 1B0). Here is the link for the livestream: https://virtualmemorialgatherings.com/memorial-services/dennis-melvin/. Please note that the graveside service will not be available via live stream.

Special thank you to the first responders who worked tirelessly and the staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital (ICU).

Also thank you for the text messages, emails, phone calls, flowers, and food. We really appreciate the love and support.

Both Beachcomber locations will be closed Saturday April 23rd, 2022.

Sorry for your loss. Charlene Woodbury

A mammoth figure in Armstrong and Spallumcheen's history, Dennis' passing is a devastating loss for those communities. So many childhood memories accompanying my father every Saturday morning to Shepherd's Hardware to gather supplies for the farm and seeing Dennis and the entire Melvin clan buzzing about in flurry of social and entrepreneurial energy. Watching the operation grow and employ so many local residents, always accompanied by continual volunteer and sponsorship activities, gave me my first glimpse into the effort required to both build a successful business and reinvest in one's community that I carry with me now. Hearty condolences to the entire family.

Our condolences to you Barbie and family this is a great loss our prayers go out to you and your family

Oh, what sad news, you dear Barbie & family!! My prayers are with you at this time of deep sorrow & such an earthly loss BUT Heaven's gain! Reading the news re Dennis's accident, this gem came to mind: "Where God puts a period, we dare not put a question-mark!" I love the poem: "The Master Weaver." "The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver's skillful hand as the threads of gold & silver, in the pattern He has planned!" Just trust Him! He does know BEST!

My dear Barbie and family, We are very sad with you … such a loss to you all .. you all have many special memories to treasure. I know Heaven will be richer . We have a hymn in Spanish , it says . “ what more could I as for ? But just to be with Thee , at your side for all eternity . We rejoice for Dennis that he is “ Home safe “ … there are so many things to trip us up and deceive us .. and the worst is when we deceive ourselves . But Dennis by the spirit and might of God overcame all that ! He has gained the crown . Just this with much love z I will be listening to the service from here . Thanks to each of you for encouraging me , always .

Dear Barbie & family- many thoughts & prayers go your way—glad for the greater power that carries us through these experiences—thankful for our day’s of fellowship & friendship we’ve had in the past & lm sure they will continue with you all ♥️

I am just So sorry for the tragic loss of your husband, Barbie and loss of your Father, Shawn, Kent and Bryce. Dennis was a most wonderful man and you were such a sweet couple together. I can empathize totally with you all as we lost my husband and father in a tragic accident coming up 26 years ago in December. Dennis is certainly in a better place now but it is us who are left behind that suffers the pain and heartache. God certainly will be with you and has the big picture that we can't see. Try to leave it all to God. He will take care of you. My Deepest Sympathy to you all. Eloise Quigley
