AUSTIN, Frederick Charles

July 28, 1960 – January 1, 2022

Calgary, AB – Calgary, AB

Fred passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the age of 61 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Colleen; his sons, Derek and Andrew, of whom he was so proud; his mother, Evelyn; his sister, Bev; his brothers, Bill (Cathy) and Doug (Liz); several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as Colleen's family whom he was close to also, Marlene (Ron), Doug, David, Debbie (Dave), and Dale;  and many lifelong friends. Fred was predeceased by his father, Harry; and his younger sister, Sharon.

Fred was an avid fisherman, who didn’t let weather conditions hinder his enjoyment of the sport. He also enjoyed great times around the campfire with family and friends. Fred took great pride in his bountiful vegetable and flower gardens. Canning became Fred’s post harvest pastime. He canned fish, fruit and vegetables, and made many types of salsas, pickles and relishes, which he happily shared. He also excelled at making many delicious soups.

Fred loved and cared for his family, and he was known for his easy going, fun-loving nature. A couple of years ago, Fred was finally able to acquire his golden retriever, Luca, one of his favorite breeds of dog.

There is so much more that we have no words for. We will dearly miss him and are smiling with all of our memories.

We sincerely thank all the doctors, nurses and caregivers, including at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Skypointe Hospice, and all those who supported Fred and the family through the last several months.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
