Shantz, Cheryl E.

December 26, 1947 - December 30, 2021

Cheryl E. Shantz (nee Seibel) of Airdrie, Alberta passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the age of 74. She was born on December 26, 1947 in Toppinish, Washington to Ralph and Enid Seibel.

Cheryl will lovingly be remembered by her husband of 51 years, Gary Shantz; her daughter, Brenna Porter (Craig); her son, Kevin Shantz (Amanda); and her 6 grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter, Kayleigh, Brandt, Colby and Mia; as well as her siblings, Paul Seibel, Ralph Seibel, Dianne Aldridge, Ron Seibel, Lyle Seibel and Dan Seibel.

She was predeceased by her father, Ralph Seibel; mother, Enid Seibel; and brothers, Glenn Seibel and David Seibel.

Cheryl came to Canada to attend the Mountain View Bible College in 1968. It was there that she met Gary’s sister, Ruthie, who introduced them just before Christmas in 1969 and they went on their first date January 10, 1970. They were married October 10 of the same year. Gary and Cheryl moved to Calgary, Alberta after they were married and lived there until 1978, when they moved to Airdrie.

Cheryl battled Multiple Sclerosis valiantly for many years and spent the past 23 years in the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre in Calgary. While there she enjoyed participating in all of the activities at the Fanning Centre including games such as bingo and trivia. She really enjoyed wood working and painting as well. Her favourite activity, however, was going to the home that she and Gary shared each weekend, it was what she lived for.

She never gave up and was an inspiration to all those that met her.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to the MS Society, 150 – 110 Quarry Park Blvd SE, Calgary, AB, T4N 4A5.

Cheryl is such an important part of our lives and will forever be in our hearts and minds. I fondly remember the scrabble games and how fortunate it was to play on her team. I will always be thankful for the time near her and the joy she radiated to everyone in her presence.

Aunt Cheryl was a beautiful, strong woman, someone I admired. She always made me feel important. Uncle Gary, Brenna, and Kevin, may you and your families be comforted in grief. Sending love to you from far away.

May the peace of God be yours as you remember, rejoice and mourn the passing of Cheryl. She was a godly woman, who loved the Lord, and her family. We miss her too. Our love to you Gary, Brenna, Craig and Kevin, Amanda and families. We are praying for you. Love (Uncle) Robert and (Aunt) Ruth
