Nicholas Kontros

January 1st, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa and great-grandpa Nick Kontros at the age of 92. He was born in Zakarovce, Czechoslovakia.

Nick came to Canada in 1949 to join his parents in Hillcrest, Alberta.  He met the love of his life Elizabeth Sogan and they were married on September 22, 1951 and had two daughters.

Nick will be remembered for his high work ethic, kindness, generosity and the joy of his grandchildren. He enjoyed a very active life.  One highlight was competing and winning medals at the Alberta Senior Games. He loved camping, travelling, and spending winters in Arizona with his wife and special friends.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Doreen (Don) Kleisinger and Anne (Frank) Kontros. He also leaves grandchildren, Kevin (Shannon) Kleisinger, Shelby and Brad Karas; and great grandchildren, Emma and Kayla Work, Blake and Jager Kleisinger; and Tracy’s husband, Clinton Work. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2013, his granddaughter Tracy Work in 2011 and his sisters and other relatives in Slovakia and Canada.

In lieu of flowers, Nick asked that donations be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, #200, 119-14th St. N.W. Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6, or to The Lung Association, #208, 17420 Stony Plain Rd.,  Edmonton, AB T5S 1K6.

The family would like to thank the staff at Unit 39 Peter Lougheed Centre especially Dr. Wilson for his excellent care. As per Nick's wishes, private family arrangements will take place in the Spring.
