KRAFT, Joan (MacDonald)

November 6, 1926 – April 15, 2019

In the early morning hours of Monday, April 15, 2019, Joan Kraft slipped away painlessly and with gentle dignity. Joan’s significant interest and great strength was in prose and poetry. Her passion was writing. She delighted in, and was supportive of, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them, and they will always love her.

In their 69 years together, Joan and Lawrence worked hard and enjoyed one another’s company, especially at Seymour Arm where they were known as ‘the oldest teenagers on the beach”. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence (2016), her sons, Kevin (1997) Lawrie (1974), her parents, Hugh and Margeurite, and four brothers, Gerald, Clarence, Jack and Archie.

Joan is remembered and celebrated by her sister, Rochelle Evans, her daughters, Donna Kelly (David), Karin Benjamin (Barry); her granddaughters, Carolina (Richard), Katrina (Sean), Chantelle (Keith), Bridget (Rob), Natalie (Jared), Sarah (Mark), great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Joan’s family is grateful for the wonderful care extended to Joan by the staff at Mountain View Seniors Housing in Sundre. There will be a Celebration of Joan’s Life at Sundre Seniors Supportive Living Facility, 749 6 St SW, Sundre, AB on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm.

Memorial tributes may be made directly to Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, 800, 7015 MacLeod Trail SW, Calgary, AB T2H 2K5.

I know many loved her and she will be missed... and we relunctly release her to the good lords hands.... I shall meet her once I'm there Peace and many blessings Ms. Joan.... Katrina.... thank you for sharing.... peace to you and your family. God loves those who share.

My deepest sincere condolences to you and to your family. Joan will be missed, her smile and strength, kindness and respect. No matter how uncomfortable she might be she would take time to ask how I am doing. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to know and care for her. Rest in peace Joan.

Dear Benjamins - we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Miz (spelling?) was so close to the whole family. She was sweet, fun, & loving in spirit despite the challenges of her last years. Hugs!

We are thinking of you all at this very sad time. The Kraft family for so many wonderful years have been very important to our family, and we treasure all the memories we have of them.

Growing up it was Mr. and Mrs. Kraft, because back in the day we were raised to have respect. I have such wonderful memories of the Kraft family and ours out at the Shuswap (Salmon Arm) every summer water skiing and boating. Joan always was a very meticulous and classy lady, even when on the beach or camping, raising her daughters and grand daughter's to be the same. Joan was a mother Hen, always a wing over all us children. Joan was a firecracker, full of joy and witt, and had a most infectious laugh. My life is richer having known such a marvelous lady. My condolences and prayers go out to Karen and Donna and their families.

Will always remember Joans effervescent smile and that twinkle of joy she always had in her eyes. It was a tremendous pleasure sharing so many happy times with her and Lawrence at Seymour Arm: “The Cabin”. Our hearts go out to all Joans children and grandchildren/ great grandchildren. Prayers to you all!

For all the memories related, stories shared, laughs together and gentle hugs I thank you Joan Kraft; and your family for allowing me to spend this last year and abit enjoying this wonderful lady.
