Kathleen Mary Bourque

June 18th, 2019

Kathleen Bourque (Heary), beloved wife to Terry, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2019 after a 20 year battle with cancer. Kathy will always be known for being strong and unrelenting in her pursuit of a life full of love, friends and family.

Kathy was born in Calgary on Sept 17, 1958 to Thomas Heary and Kathleen Brennan and married the love of her life 24 years later. Kathy is lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend, Terry; mother, Kitty; sister, Maureen; daughter Tara and son-in-law Craig; son Richard and daughter-in-law Danielle; daughter Colleen and son-in-law Colin; daughter Simone and favourite dog Chloe; nephews and niece Tyler, Michael and Maggie. She is also lovingly remembered by four grandsons who brought her much joy, laughter and delighted exhaustion; Jackson, Riley, Declan and Griffin. She is preceded in death by her father Tom Heary.

Those who knew Kathy know that above all else in life, she most cherished her family, whom she diligently surrounded herself with as often as possible. She could always be relied upon for ensuring there were many frequent and large family and friend gatherings. She knew what mattered most in the world and as a true matriarch, she made sure those beliefs and practices were carried on by all of her children.  Her children are successful in their lives because of her fierce determination to instill in every one of them an understanding of the importance of a healthy life, full of love, friends, family, travel, (and the occasional glass of good wine).

A  Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Holy Name Church, (2223 - 34th St SW, Calgary). Reception will be at the Parish immediately following the service. The celebration of Kathy’s life will continue at Richmond’s Pub, (3919 Richmond Rd SW, Calgary). All friends, family and acquaintances are welcome.

A special thank you and appreciation goes out to all the physicians, nurses and allied health professionals at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, most notably Dr. Balis, who were always available to help her out and give her one more chance to fight her disease with novel therapies and supportive hands.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to The Mustard Seed in Kathy’s name.

Words of advice from Kathy: "It's better to ask forgiveness than to beg for permission"

Messages:

A lovely person. We so enjoyed your very recent visit to Ireland with Maureen. You enhanced our lives.

Kathy is a beautiful soul, inside and out. Will miss her dearly. My sincerest condolences to all those who love her. Mark and Carleen Faires v

My heart is breaking for all of Kathy’s family and for all the Girls Weekend Gals

Friends are not defined by the time you spend with them or how you met them. Friends are known and defined by how they make you feel and how they make your life more complete. There are things that will stay with us forever but most importantly and cherished are memories of the love, loyalty and bond. To our 'sister', you lived life as an example of all things loving and you were a strong and dependable person who lived a life dedicated to those you held dear. There is a hole in our hearts only capable of being filled by the memories. We were better having known you. You included us as family and with that you will always be here and we will always be family.

I'm truly sorry for your loss and although we've never met in life you were always larger than life whenever your best friend and her husband spoke of you. There is nothing like a best friend and I know that you are greatly missed.
