Christina Rae Hunter

December 19th, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christina Rae Hunter on December 19, 2020 at the age of 79.

Chris was born in Victoria, BC, the only child to Ethel and William Surradge. They moved to Burnaby, BC where Chris met the love of her life, Jim Hunter, at Burnaby North Highschool.

Chris and Jim married and settled in Surrey, BC where they welcomed their son, Russ in 1968. Here they formed lifelong friendships and spent countless hours at their cabin at Anderson Lake.

In 1980 Jim took a job transfer to Kamloops and they settled in Rayleigh. Chris and Jim were proud members of the Shriners and Daughters of the Nile. Chris was also a longtime member of the YMCA where she met friends to work out, but especially enjoyed the luncheons that followed.

Chris was an avid Canucks fan and never missed a game. She was also the biggest fan of her two grandchildren, Bennett and Sophie whom she attended every game, recital and concert, never missing an event.

Left to mourn her passing is her son Russ, daughter in law Tara, grandchildren Bennett and Sophie.

Chris is predeceased by her husband James George Hunter on December 16, 2007 and parents Ethel and William Surradge.

A special thank you to her wonderful Rayleigh neighbors who loved and cared for her like family.

There will be no formal ceremony.

Hello, Our condolences. We met Chris at a group fitness class. She was always a bright spark and gave her utmost. For a number of years, she shared per perennials to fund raise for the Kamloops CanGo Grannies plant sale (Stephen Lewis Foundation) to help the grandmothers and their families in Africa during the Aids. She was pleased to be able to help and so were we. We have some tiger lilies in our backyard to remember her kindness. Pat and Stan

Our condolenses to you and your family. It was my honour to be Chris's escort to many Masonic Special Ladies Christmas dinners. Chris truly was a very Special Lady. Barrie & Rose

Russ, Tara and family Saddened to learn of your Mom’s passing. Chris was a friend to many and will be missed by many. I have many fond memories of fun times with Chris and Jim. May the memories of your loving mother and grandmother bring peace and comfort to you in times to come. Sincerely- Gloria Michayluk

Dear Russ, Tara, Bennett and Sophie We are so sorry for your loss. Her memories will live on long in your hearts and in the stories you tell. We will always remember her sitting at the side of a soccer pitch cheering and supporting the team. And the summer she watched over our house and watered all our plants when we were on holidays... she kept a little journal of such things as finding the gate latch and commenting on the progress of all the plants and the fish, and then she gave us a number of large shells to adorn the path along the house. She will long remain in the fabric of your hearts. May you grieve in the gentlest and healthiest of ways. The Hendersons

From Wayne, Lindsay and Matthew Richardson thinking of you guys.

Dear Family: I am so sad for you at this time. Chris was a wonderful lady, gentle and kind. I enjoyed her company for years at our 'after Y' luncheons. We exchanged recipes, landscaping ideas, grandchildren sporting events, and lots of fun conversations! She was very proud of her family!

Dear Russ, Tara, Bennett and Sofie, so sorry to hear about your mom. She was a wonderful person, friend, and neighbor so kind and helpful to me when we were neighbors. I will miss her. She loved her family so much and was so proud of her grandchildren. My deepest sympathy to you all. I know she is dancing to "Can I have this Dance" by Anne Murray with your dad! May she rest in peace. Judy, Dylan and David Armstrong and families, Kamloops BC Canada

Russ and family, so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Time and distance separates us but I still have great childhood memories of you and growing up in Rayleigh. We wish you well in this difficult time. Rick and Crystal Plante

Chris was a good friend to my sister, Adele and me. I first got to know Chris was on the long bus ride to Fort St John for the PeeWee hockey Provincials in 1981. We more recently connected over coffee at McDonalds after a workout at the John Tod Y. She was so proud of her grand children and enjoyed Russ, Tara and family.

Dear Russ, Tara, Bennett & Sophie Our hearts go out to all of you. Such a difficult time. We are so sad to lose such a good friend. Let the good memories get you through this. Love Ken & Gayle
