Juliana Frieda Karau

January 27th, 2021

Juliana Frieda was born 5 miles north of Churchbridge, Saskatchewan on August 19, 1935 to Anna and Johann Thiele and born into the family of God July of 1951. She moved to Alberta in 1952.

After completing her Certified Nursing Assistant Training at SAIT in Calgary, she married Douglas Karau on January 17, 1956. They made their first home in Claresholm, Alberta.

Before their first child was born in 1957; they moved to Portland, Oregon to attend Wings of Healing Bible School. Being blessed with a beautiful voice she was privileged to sing in their television broadcast choir.

Moving back to Canada in 1958 they felt the call of God to support missionaries to Africa in May of 1959. They supported Stanley and Marion Hoffman for the next 40 years and became very close friends.

As a nurse, Frieda enjoyed working at the Grace Hospital, Lethbridge Municipal and in various home care situations. She enjoyed her professional calling in all her nursing opportunities, but she gained the most pleasure working in the hospital nursery.

She enjoyed gardening, (both vegetable and flowers), canning preserves, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and keeping a meticulous house.

Her family of three growing children was her number one priority. With her husband, she instilled a family tradition of Bible reading after every supper and praying in the evenings as a family kneeling by the couch.

Her love of scripture reading and prayer spoke loudly not only to her children, but all who knew her.

Frieda’s walk with God was a witness to everyone she opened her home to. She was a prayer warrior and “Mother in Israel” for anyone who needed a hot meal, a listening ear, or encouragement and prayer.

She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memories; her loving husband and best friend of 65 years, Douglas; one son, Timothy (Karen) Karau; and two daughters, Deborah (Harry) Knelsen and Carla (Skip) Landis; ten grandchildren Aaron, Anna, Naomi, Grace and Benjamin; Candace and Darrell; and Trena, Jonathan, and Heidi; and 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Elsa Watson; and one brother, Jack Thiele; numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends who were all recipients of her prayers.

Messages:

Dear Doug and Karau family, Your dear Frieda always had a ready smile and such a kind, gentle, encouraging spirit when we'd meet and chat in the Church foyer, Sunday mornings. She will be missed. May your family sense the heart of God's love and comfort these days. In His love, Warren and Dagmar

Our deepest condolences to the Karau family. As I worked on Doug's little projects around the house, I loved our discussions on our Lord. I found when I worked on Doug and Frieda's property, there was a Peace there and my heart could easily ascend to Father on praise and prayer. I knew that a life sown in praise and prayer gave your property a cocoon of love and protection. I thank God for the godly example you have been to myself and many others. And wont forget the humility I saw in Doug and Frieda. I could only hope to live such a life. God bless this family of God. Love in Christ Rod and Cindy

Our sincere condolences to you Doug, Tim, Debbie and Carla. I remember many good memories of you and Frieda in Forest Lawn Church and then Glad Tidings Church in Lethbridge. You were such good friends with Mom and Dad for many years too and I know they valued you as friends and workers in the Church together. Freida was always such a soft spoken person but was always a willing heart to help wherever was necessary. We pray the Lord will comfort you and give you His peace that passes all understanding.

Our thoughts & prayers are with the family at this time of loss. Frieda was such a blessing & help to our family & in our home. God Bless you all.
