Annie Florence Hollies

January 17th, 2021

Annie Florence McCabe was born to parents Edwin and Annie McCabe, in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, on July 22, 1937.  Anne, known to family and friends as Babs, grew up in Coleraine.  After completing primary school, she studied secretarial arts; then as a young woman made the bold decision to move to Canada to look for work.  Anne received her Canadian Citizenship a few years after arriving in Canada.

Originally settling in Ontario, she met Hubert “Bob” Hollies, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.  Babs and Bob were married November 2, 1957.  Two years later, on October 17, 1959 Anne gave birth to their son, Robert “Mark” Hollies.

Bob’s career in the military saw the family move several times before settling in Calgary.  Anne worked in Calgary as a legal secretary during the 70s and 80s.  Anne was an avid reader and after retiring, volunteered at CUPS.  She taught English as a second language and helped new Canadians study for their citizenship.

For the last twelve years Anne suffered from the challenges of dementia.  She recently tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 83 years.  Anne was predeceased by her son Mark in 2012.
