September 26th, 2020

In the early morning hours of September 26, 2020, Shirley Faye Post, “Faye.” (nee King) Wife,Sister,Mother,Beloved Grandmother and Teacher passed away peacefully in the Mount Royal Long Term Care, in Calgary, Alberta. She was 82.  Faye is lovingly remebered by her loving husband, Daniel Post; children, Chris Post (Beth), and Alison Predika (Arion); her grandchildren, Tegan Post, Dave Post, Kieran Predika and Mikael Predika; and her twin sister, Denise Burridge (Chuck).  She was predeceased by her father, Leslie King; and her mother, Grace King.  Faye was born on September 11, 1938 in Gananoque, Ontario.  She grew up on a farm, learning about the hard work and dedication required to make farm life a success.  When she was seven years old, she contracted the measles, and developed a serious ear infection. Despite the resultant hearing loss from this infection she persevered and never gave up on her dreams.  She graduated from Gananoque Secondary School in 1956 and went on to receive her secretarial certificate in 1957.  She worked as a secretary in Kingston at Canadian Dredge and Dock and then at the Institute for Psychotherapy.  During this time, she and her friends attended a dance at Queen’s University where she met her future husband Dan.  Dan and Faye were married on June 30, 1962.  They moved to Sarnia Ontario, where Dan began his career as a chemical engineer working for Canadian Oil.  During their time in Sarnia, their first child was born.  Chris arrived in 1965.  They then moved to Oakville, Ontario where their daughter Alison was born in 1967.  In 1972, with her two young children in school, Faye continued to follow her passion of becoming a teacher.  She graduated from teacher’s college and began supply teaching in Oakville.  She continued her education and attended night classes at McMaster University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  She then obtained a Bachelor of Education from Brock University and worked at Syl Apps, a school for young offenders in Oakville.  In 1984 Dan was transferred to Calgary, when Shell Oil moved the head office. Faye embarked on a new adventure with her family.   She continued her teaching career and began teaching with the Calgary Board of Education, teaching at West View School, which was within The Calgary Young Offenders Centre.  She taught there for five years and left to begin work at R.B. Bennett Elementary School.  While teaching at R.B. Bennett, she formed many strong friendships that she would maintain to her final days.  Faye was a kind and caring teacher, approaching each day with a love of learning and dedication to her students.  She passed her love of learning onto her children and grandchildren as she supported their learning, teaching them, and reading with them.  Faye was a loving grandmother and she was always there for her grandchildren.  When she retired from her teaching career, she helped out with the babysitting of her two youngest grandchildren, shepherding them through their early years.  A Memorial Service will be at  St James Anglican Church - 6351 Ranchview Dr NW, Calgary, AB on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Dr. Dane Neufeld will officiate the service.   All are welcome to attend and celebrate Faye's life.  Please note due to COVID-19 there will be no reception following the service.  The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Mount Royal Long Term Care in Calgary for all of their care, dedication and kindness.

I was always struck by Faye’s unstinting assistance to her special friend Maxine who passed away only a few months ago. When they went shopping together Faye had a knack for knowing whether Maxine really wanted an item, but still was hesitant about whether to buy. Faye invariably knew when to put her finger on the decision scale to make her friend happy. As they linked arms and left the store you might expect them to start belting out a chorus of I Am Woman. There is no doubt that, if there are discount malls in Heaven no matter how well disguised, these two will find them, but you will know for sure if you are able to hear in the distance, “Yes, I’ve paid the price ,but look how much I’ve gained ; if I have to, I can do anything. I am strong. I am invincible.” They were all that and more.

You will be greatly missed Faye.. always loved when we got to visit you and Dan. You were a great cousin to us in our family. Love ❤️ jim and anne

Faye has been a dear friend since the day we met. To know her was to love her; she was kind, loving, gentle, thoughtful, a caring friend and a wonderful wife and mother, as anyone could see who spent time with her. She will live in our hearts with so many happy memories of times together. Fly Free, my friend!

My aunt, Patsy Hough, forwarded the news of Faye's passing along to me this morning. My mother was Eleanor Hough-Cole, daughter to Maude Henderson-Hough. I am remembering wonderful times at Aunt Grace's home and how lovely both Faye and Denise were - twins - as I had twin sisters it was kind of a novelty at the time. I just talked with my sister, Joanie, to advise her and also to express my astonishment that Faye lived in Oakville at the same time as I, my Aunt Elaine and Aunt Ev did - as I did not remember her being there. To all my extended family out west, my sincere condolences on the passing of Faye. Marsha (Mardi) Cole

Love you and miss you so much grandma!! You were so important to my life and I will cherish all the memories that we made together ❤️
