Loretta Amaryllis Danielson

April 23rd, 2020

With sadness the family of LORETTA DANIELSON of Carstairs announce her passing on April 23, 2020.

Loretta was born on March 9, 1929 and loved farm life on the Thompson Homestead near Barrhead.  Only daughter of a pioneer farmer and a school teacher, she helped her parents make a living through the Depression years, attended a country school, and then Alberta College in Edmonton. She loved her work nursing TB patients at Charles Camsell Hospital until her marriage to Ola Danielson in June, 1952.  Together they farmed for twenty years each in Sedgewick, Barrhead and Carstairs, as he gradually lost his eyesight. Loretta was an full-time farm partner, operating farm trucks and equipment, nurturing animals and crops. She was also active in her church, taught Sunday School, enjoyed being a 4H Leader, and volunteered in many community organizations.  As someone said “She was small but mighty!”   Her love of travel and friends meant driving across western Canada and USA.  Grandma especially loved her five grandchildren Landon, Janelle, Lori, Lowell & Julie, who she was very proud of.  After 59 years of marriage and celebrating weddings of their grandchildren, she and Ola were blessed with twelve wonderful great-grandchildren.

Loretta enjoyed her retirement, crafting, gardening and Family Research.  After Ola death in 2011 she moved from the farm and lived with her daughter Judy & Brian Taylor, and later at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury, where wonderful staff cared for her needs until her peaceful passing at the age of 91. Celebration of Life at a later date.

Messages:

Judy, sorry to hear of your Mom‘s passing. She was such a trouper, and we have great memories of her, always busy helping someone, her quick response to do what needed to be done. She took in our Dog when we needed and loved her. She will be missed greatly but thankful she is rejoicing with the Lord. May God give you his strength and peace.

Dear Brian and Judy, Willis and I recall the times we had visits with Loretta when we would pick her up for church. We bless you as you deal with the hard journey of grieving at this time without a funeral. She was an interesting conversationist when it was birthing time for the farm animals----she told us her stories of joy when she came to Christian Womens. I remember her kind smiles at Aspen.

My dear friend, what a lovely tribute to your Mom. It is sweet to know she has been welcomed into the presence of her Lord at the end of a long and productive life. But I know that her passing leaves a hole in your heart and in the life of your family. Much love and prayers for comfort and peace at this time of transition. Ron & Diane

Dear Judy and Brian, Now it is my turn to leave condolences for you. I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of Loretta and can only imagine how difficult the past few weeks have been given the isolation mandated by COVID. I will remember Loretta's sweet smile as she walked the halls of Aspen to visit everyone, sometimes wearing headphones so she could listen to her music. Music and gentle smiles were gifts that Loretta shared with my Dad. My thoughts are with you and your family. Dawne (Don Palmer's daughter)

To have a good mother is to be blessed with everything necessary for eventually getting back into her presence once more, only this time permanently! We are so sorry for your loss, we know you have been very blessed.

Dear Brian & Judy, Our sympathy and prayers are with you and the extended family in the loss of Loretta. We're grateful for special memories of this wonderful lady, and rejoice with you that she is "safely home." We pray God's peace and comfort. In Christian love, Neil & Val

Small but mighty! That is how I viewed her! I didn’t get to know her until late in life, but the little I did know was that of a small and mighty woman. I loved looking into her beautiful blue eyes and listening to her stories of farm life. When I met Loretta, she still tended cattle, chickens and picked rocks by hand in the field. I had an opportunity to come and help her, she showed me the little road/bridge that she had made using those rocks. I am looking forward to seeing her again. Oh the stories she will be able to tell when I get to where she is. My sincere condolences to all of you! Safe cyber hugs to each of you!

Judy, This is a wonderful tribute to your mom. We didn,t know that your mom nursed. It isn't surprising though. She was a very smart lady. I don't think she missed anything. With all of that Judy, even though you know where your mom is, this must be a difficult time with all that is happening. We can't imagine. You have been on my mind (Jacquie), and we will keep you in our prayers. Jacquie and Don
