Spencer Layne Duhaime

February 9th, 2019

Spencer Layne Duhaime passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at his home at the age of 20 years, after a long struggle with mental illness.

Spencer was born August 11,1998 and lived his entire life in Airdrie. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Wendy; father, Brent (Gillian) her daughters, Kendal & Mackenzie; sister, Liz (Macklin), nephews, Ryan & Sawyer; his uncle Keith (Aldyn); cousins and friends. Spencer graduated from St. Martin De Porres high school in 2016 where he enjoyed playing in the high school band and had a passion for music. He also enjoyed playing hockey, soccer, camping, scouting and particularly enjoyed the week-long hiking trips that lead him to The Yukon, Alaska, B.C., and the Rocky Mountains. He also loved travelling to the Caribbean and Europe and looked forward to seeing the rest of the world.

Spencer had started his career as an electrician and was currently attending his first period technical training at SAIT. He had a reputation as being a very hard worker, always the first one on the job, eager to learn and kind to work with. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1305 Main Street, S., Airdrie, AB on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM. I remember growing up with Spencer. As kids in our Kindergarten classroom we had our own secret language, and when I couldn’t say his name correctly he let me call him “Squishy”. Even as we got older and drifted apart he was always a positive presence in every class and was always able to make people laugh. I’m so sorry for your loss, he will be lovingly remembered by everyone he met.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family. We are so sorry to hear of Spencer's passing.

Brent & Gillian, Wendy, and all of your families - we are profoundly sorry for your loss of Spencer. We are thinking of you and with you in spirit. May you treasure the many good memories and the love you share.

Brent and Jill, There are no words that can be said by anyone who has not experienced the tragic loss of their child to console one who has. My hope is that Spencer will now have the peace he so lovingly deserves. Love to you both, Joanna
