It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Peter Merlo, at the age of eighty-six years, on February 12, 2013 at Vernon, BC. Peter (aka Buck) was born in Fort William, Ontario. #300, 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2
He came to Vernon forty-seven years ago and did everything from his first job of picking apples to working at the Silver Star Mountain, Poma Lift. He was still known as “Poma Pete” before taking a job at the Lavington Glass Plant where he worked for many years before retiring. Music was his life. He loved playing with the Old Time Fiddlers and was always happy to “Pick and Grin” with his favorite Gibsons guitar for the Halina Pattern Dancers and in previous years the Vernon Winter Carnival.
He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his daughters and sons: Esther Hesketh of Calgary, Peter Merlo of Calgary, Darnell Merlo, Kim Merlo, Darrell Merlo and Kelly Merlo all from Vernon. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his last living brother, Leo Merlo, of Thunder Bay.
A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held on July,6,2013 From 12:00-3:00pm at The Halina Seniors Center (3310 37th Ave Vernon, BC) everybodys Welcome to join the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of BC (

I always called him Uncle Pete, even though he wasn't my relative I always thought of him like family. He was always so good to our family, such a nice man. Kim and Kelly were good friends. My condolances to you and the rest of the Merlo family. He will be missed.
